Post subject: YouTube screws thousands of animation fans.
For a long time, YouTube has been the center of controversy with copyright infringement, and who could blame them? Entire episodes of shows were being uploaded without permission from the corporations that owned them, so they naturally had to be deleted.
Then they started getting pissy about it. Around last week, fan-created music videos and parodies (which are legal in the U.S.) were deleted without reason. (See here for evidence.) But it didn't stop there. Commercials and even clips from VIDEO GAMES were being deleted. And they weren't trailers being pirated/released early, either, which is weird. Since when the hell was that illegal? (Referring to VG clips, not trailers.)
Now, they've basically nailed their coffin shut with no way to loosen it.
So, what's new in the world of animation this week? Well, YouTube has bowed to pressure from the movie studios and removed hundreds of animated films from their site, deleted hundreds of user accounts, and in the process, alienated thousands of users who'll now be taking their business to other sites like DailyMotion. What is most disturbing about this indiscriminate purge of cartoons is that they've also removed dozens of public domain cartoons which were legally posted on their site. Warner shorts like Eatin' on the Cuff, Porky's Midnight Matinee, and A Day at the Zoo, as well as the Fleischer Superman shorts, are all films that have entered the public domain, and can be freely reedited, redistributed, and resold without permission from anybody. Unfortunately, YouTube has shown a woeful ignorance of copyright law and removed these films citing a baseless "terms of use violation" clause.
The Brew aren't the only ones who responded. Here are some other rants:
If you have a YT account, join DailyMotion today (I could recommend Google Video, too, but their quality is a bigger eyesore than other Flash video sites) and tell YouTube where to stick it. _________________ Toonami visual schedule - UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2015

About the only things I watched on YouTube were music videos, old commercials, and promos and intros that people got from ASF.
The crackdown was bound to happen sooner or later, and with all the videos that get uploaded to YouTube daily, I guess they didn't have the time to research what cartoons were in the public domain and which were not.
You'd think commercials would be ok, considered free advertising or something, but who knows. _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."

And just what is the "source"? I don't think the openings to 80s shows like Dragonar are all that easy to find.
Unless you mean those sites that install every single bit of spyware and a virus or two on your system... And that's while running Firefox, not IE. _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

No i mean stuff that should be there, not copyrighted material that is even more openly available to those who are computer illiterate....either buy the dvds, or download the torrents until the dvds come out.... _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite.

It's a fear of legal threat by anyone. Sometime ago, WWE told Youtube to remove any copyrighted materials that they owned, which they did. Similarly, other companies did the same thing, although, a few had cut deals with Youtube. Though, I see this as there are afraid of being sued.

With good reason.
YouTube needs to come to more agreements with copyright holders, like the one they just entered with Warner Music Group... or die by sharks:
YouTube, Inc. and Warner Music Group Corp. have inked a unique deal under which YouTube will distribute music videos from WMG's roster of artists as well as behind-the-scenes footage, artist interviews, original programming and other special content. Additionally, YouTube users will be able to incorporate music from WMG's music catalog into the videos they create and upload onto YouTube. WMG will be able to authorize the use off its content via YouTube's advanced content identification and royalty reporting system, set to launch by years end. YouTube and WMG will share revenue from advertising on both WMG music videos and user uploaded videos that incorporate audio/audiovisual content from WMG's catalog. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S.
