Back in here in Holland, toonami is quite new.
Gundam Wing has just got to its end.
I saw on the internet that Gundam is old.
There have been many other series.
Can someone tell me about the other series and the story??! |

Well I think you could have at least said something to him GB....
Anyway Gundam Started around the mid 70's as a popular manga sereis and soon was made into a show called Mobile Suit Gundam otherwise known as MSG Which was made in 1979. Afterwhich spawn a very large number of followup series and spin-offs over the years with many of these being of very high quality. Gundam along with maybe a Lupin the Third is among the most popular anime over the years. Since 1979 new series have come out periodically that seem to jump around the timeline starting after the original series. Gundam Wing though is known as an "Alternate Universe" series. Meaning it has nothing to do with the original and is completely different story. A few other series like this are Gundam X, G Gundam, and Gundam Seed. Most of the others are made in the original timeline.
The sereis though do differ much in quality. This mostly has to do in the times that each series were made. Gundam 0080 which takes place at the very end of the MSG has some of the lowest quality because it was made in the 80's while Gundam: The 08th MS team, that takes place before 0080 looks much better because it was made only a few years ago.
I certainly recommend checking out as many of them as you can. So far in America Toonami has show the original MSG, 0080, 0083, Gundam Wing, Gundam Wing:The Movie, G Gundam, and Char's Counter Attack. With Gundam Zeta set to premier next year or late this year. _________________ Bang. |

This might seem like a weird aside. But I will ask anyway. Has anyone read the books that go with the series?
During the 80's a couple publishers did a series of novels based on certain shows. Their were 26 books for the robotech series. These really expanded upon the show and helped to fill in the gaps. And generally were pretty good.
And the Gundam Z and ZZ books were about the same. I can remember reading them in slow periods in school and was amazed how easy it was to imagine the series. At this point I had not seen a single episode of the anime, it being 1989-1990, but the connections with Robotech were easy to make.
Rather then starting a second reply concerning the series in general..
I liked Wing the first couple times I saw it. But now I go back it just annoys me for only so-so animation. And generally a weak story line. The follow up OVA did a much better job with the animation.
G Gundam has really started to grow on me lately. Once you get past the hole "And where the heck are they controlling it from. And how does this thing work". Its really not a bad story. The fight scenes have almost a Dragonball Z'ish quality to them.
The series that followed the one squad, 0080 right? That was great for how it tried to take these larger then life machines and make them truly larger then life. I really liked how they showed, and used the GunCannon. Instead of it being just another mobile suit it was this massive tank thing.
Gundams such a large universe that its easy to make your own take on it. And since the library is so filled with animes that are complete. You could spend months catching up and watching nothing but gundams before begging for a new one. _________________ Certified Narutard |

G-Savior is supposed to take place that far after V? From the descriptions I have seen the equipment looks like it came out of 0079. I guess I need to sit down with G-Savior, DragonBall the Movie, and Fantasic Four (1994) and make a day of bad movies. _________________ Certified Narutard |

It was a bad Idea from the start.
They shouldn't have even attempted to do it. _________________ I shake like a toothache,

You forgot 8th MS team, which was shown on Adult Swim. And, you got your dates wrong.
Gundam 0080=Made in 1980
Gundam 0083=Made in 1983 (Fancy that)
But here's the big shocker:
Gundam: 8th MS Team was actially made in 1986. One of the reasons I consider it one of the pinnacles of anime, as it stacks up to any other great anime of today (i.e., AMG, NGE, Trigun, CB, OLS, and a bunch more). _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Enough random speculation on air dates! Time to set the records straight on when each series aired, just because I hate seeing the wrong facts posted about anything and everything. And I hope the "8's" were typos Bono.

There were comments on the Gundam novels earlier. The only ones I've heard about were the three for the original series, which contained slightly different events(including a love affair between two members of the White Base crew) then the TV series. They were translated and released in the U.S. over 10 years ago, and the only way to get them now is to shell out a sh|tload of cash. Not sure if any other Gundam novels have made it over yet. _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

Haha I was right bono. You really have to be able to match animation with time period. It's quite hard otherwise. Though I was thinking 0080 was created in early 80s I should have thought diffferent because the machas were done really well in that. Just the characters looked cheap.^_^
Anyway I've also heard rumors of a few other series such as Gundam R. I'm not sure if these were fan made creations but I know they do exist. _________________ Bang. |
