Hello everybody remember me? WHAT! you dont? Oh well, lets continue then.

I'm sure many of you have seen numreous advertisements on the internet over the past few months for "Free iPod" or "Free Flatscreens" or even "freedesktopPcs" Well i always assumed that all of these things were scams and too good to be true. Well after doing some research suprising as it is THEY ARENT.

A simple google search turns up many articles like this one http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html?tw=wn_2culthead and many others all from trusted sources.

There are also many websites just like this one www.freeipodguide.com that thourghly explain the process and even offer proof in form of photos of recieved ipods and sales recipts.

In summary make an account sign up for an offer and refer five people to do the same. Its that easy.

I hate referrer bitches. I think I hate them so much, I might add the term "referrer bitches" (or even "referer bitches") to urbandictionary.com.

Heh, honestly I've researched it and freeipods.com and yeah, of course they are "scams", but they're econimically genius scams. In truth it is possible and quite easy to GET something from these sites if you know how to work with the system. Think of it using cost-benefit analysis. The "real" cost to you is that the site will probably send spam to the email adresss you used, and if you pick the wrong service to sign up for you might be forced to go through some hassle to get it cancelled. Both of these can be easily avoided and the positive benefits are that you get a FREE 300$ IPOD.

The trick is to get a Yahoo or Gmail account that you dont need and use that when you sign up. Fake any information except for your address so they send the Ipod to the right place then sign up for one of the services that you can easily cancel or dont even need to cancel. For instance they will let you sign up with InFone which doesn't charge anything unless you use it AND you can give them a fake phone number. If I put myself in the shoes of someone who was 100% adimantly against it the one reason would have to be "I have to give my credit card number out and I dont feel confortable with that". Or "I'm afraid of mailing lists". Number one, you're not giving your credit card number to some yahoo store wacko, you're giving it to normal companies like GM or Blockbuster that are obviously Versigned. Number two, you MIGHT get mail sent to you. In email form, you'd be using a throw away account that you never have to use after you get your Ipod. If it's brink and mortor mail, well I guess you're gonna have to, I dont know TOSS IT IN THE TRASH? Yeah that's about it.

Conclusion, if you dont want to get involved because of whatever then yeah ignore it or tell the person to **** off and die. But I think that if more people went through with it and less were afraid or refused compainies like this would go out of buisness because they take advantage of the entrepnurial and fear of those who dont participate.

This sounds like some whacked-out pyramid scheme...

Of course, to avoid spam, you could just use Spam Gourmet.

This is more of an advertising scam than it is a normal pyramid scam. The normal version of this is that people will pay money for their names to go on the list. For every x number of people who sign up, one person from the top of the list receives a free "gift". I believe there are people on ebay who do this.

In this case, instead of money, they are just collecting personal information so that advertises can assail you with offers to buy crap. So, it's legal.

actually a buddy of mine did this too, he got his ipod all like promised. The biggest thing you have to remember is to create some email at hotmail or yahoo to use for this, once you do that all the spam int he world isn't going to bother on that email.

It's a legitimate "offer" based on guaranteed returns for the offerers.
A nice way for big service-related companies to market.

It's also a quick way to get banned by spamming for it in some forums on the internet.

What I know is that it's a pyramid scheme, you're asking for spam, and nobody I know has gotten one yet. A better idea is to just pick up an iBook for college, and get $200 off an iPod along with $100 off a HP Printer.

In the meanwhile, my old iPod will do.
