Stanley Gold, one of Roy Disney's key advisers, tells the New York Post that Steven Jobs, head of Pixar Animation Studios, would be a good choice to take over as CEO of the Walt Disney Company should current boss Michael Eisner be forced out.
Gold said that he hadn't spoken to Jobs about the position, nor had Jobs asked about it.
What are your opinions about what Stanley Gold said? Doy ou agree Jobs could be the man for the position? I want to know what you think. I'll post my opinion a little later on.

I'm torn on this news. On one hand, Pixar will go back to Disney, but on the other hand, Pixar will go back to Disney. It's both a good and a bad thing.
The good thing is that since the owner of Pixar is now in charge of Disney, Pixar can gain more profits and have more freedom to set the distribution deals. They'll also continue to make more hit movies for Disney and supply the studio with more animation with good writing, which is something Eisner's cronies have been lacking in recent years.
The bad thing is that Pixar will have more than just a partnership with Disney; instead, they'll be completely OWNED by them and they likely won't be able to leave again, but hopefully Steve will do a good job running the Magic Kingdom (better than Eisner anyway), so this might not be so bad after all. But still, Pixar wants to leave, and Jobs' ownership of the company will go against their will.
Also, 2-D animation has slowly been fading away from Disney's eyes in recent months. What will happen to the other studios? I know Eisner will do everything he can to pluck them off like feathers on a dead bird. Will Jobs think the same way? I pray that he doesn't, but corporate big-wigs tend to think very differently from the way consumers think.
Finally, Disney is one of the most family-friendly entertainment companies out there, and Pixar won't be able to gain more freedom from their censorship policies with their future projects, especially since other entertainment companies with more lenient guidelines on animation (WB, Fox, etc.) are sniffing out Pixar for a partnership, unless Jobs creates an animation division for one of their more "grown-up" outlets (Touchstone or Miramax) and allows the company to work with them.

I don't think it's a good idea.
He's already CEO of two companies, Pixar and Apple; to take over Disney, he'd have to give up at least one, probably both positions. He doesn't have anyone set up to succeed him at either company, and I don't think either company can survive without him right now. Plus Disney's too large and diversified, with conflicting interests, for him to effectively manage right now (thanks to Eisner).
I have no objection to him sitting on the Disney board; that would make it a bit more independent-thinking. But he obviously won't be able to do it while Eisner's there. (Clash of the Titanic Egos, coming soon to a theater near you )

Hmm, being the CEO of three of the most succesful corporations in history doesn't sound like too bad of a job description. He could almost compete with Gates after that. _________________ Bang.

At first I was thinking "hey! this could be a good thing. He's got the experience with a large company with diverse products and also with managing an animation studio. On top of all that a rock would be better for Disney than Eisner." But then I started thinking about it. What changes would Jobs start demanding? What changes would he NOT demand I think is the better question. Would he bring back the 2d feature dept? Or would he go with the all 3d that Eisner has installed? Perhaps he would fold Pixar into the company, perhaps step back and let it run independantly on its own.
Personally I think Jobs also believes 2d is dead. While he himself has been toting the power of 3d around Disney has been floundering with it's 2d. He noticed. I doubt he would want to even have the chance to have the same flops happen to him if he reinstated 2d.
Whomever the new CEO will be will need to cut whole apendages off which Eisner has grafted on. Disney has turned into a giant unwieldy monster. Jobs needs to realize this if he hasn't already. Freedom of censorship is in place from Eisner and his cronies. All that neds to happen is a CEO who is willing to chance telling the censors and familyfiers to lighten up.
Basicly I don't think Jobs is right for the position. He has to much riding on Pixar and Apple to be able to do it. I can just see him forcing all of Disney onto the Mac platform (while keeping it 3d) and that my friends is a catastrophe. Basicly it's to damn easy to go illegal. All he needs is a giant umbrella corperation to sell his Mac's to to drive apples share up but wait? where does all the profit come from and where does it go? Comes from Disney goes to Apple gets pumped back around to Pixar who then releases a film for Disney who then needs equipment from Apple.
Basicly we need somebody who can invest their WHOLE BEING into Disney. Somebody who's sole interest is rebuilding the company's name and reputation -- even if it means from the ground up. Even if that means loosing Pixar and Mr. Jobs altogether. Disney needs to dump all their baggage. Keep the Disney name, the parks, Miramax, and Touchstone. Sell the rest. Remember it didn't just start with a mouse, there was a man in there somerewhere too.
I probably got more, it may or may not come later.

Ok where did my original reply to this go.
Steve Jobs isnt the right man for Disney. Disney is a huge gigantic congolmerate. When he lead apple it had 10% of the market and was a hardware company that had its own OS. Then he went to NeXT, which most of you will forget, and failed miserably. Then he went back to a small company and created Pixar. Hes not the right type of man to run something the size or complexity of Disney.
I hear there are some laid off Enron officers who could do it though

Jobs didn't create Pixar. He bought it from another company.
