Post subject: Escaflowne on Adult Swim

Well we know the AS schedule for the next three weeks is like this:
Inuyasha 2nd movie
Cowboy Bebop : The Movie
Escaflowne The Movie
What's interesting is that of the many anime movies the could've chosen they picked Escaflowne, now take a look at the other two movies, they're based on already succesful shows on AS. After looking at this I was reminded of the big fight between FOX and Cartoon Network a few years back for the rights to the Visons Of Escaflowne TV series, Toonami wanted air that real bad but in the end Fox won the bid and thoroughly screwed the whole sereis.
Now the movie version was a condenced version of the series, but it was very good in it's own right(atleast I liked it). Could this mean that if the movie premeir gets enough ratings AS might consider running the whole series? |

It wasn't much of a fight.
Williams Street mentioned in an interview that they'd like to license the series.
Fox saw the interview and about a week later offered triple what Cartoon Network could afford, specifically so that it would never see Toonami.
Though it might be possible in the future. I don't recall the expiration date for the airing rights, but considering how poorly Fox treated the show, I'm sure Bandai's not letting it happen again. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Well Bandai seems to be working closely with CN this fall, if shows like Naruto, IGPX and Ghost In The Shell pull of a ratings victory they might just consider giving Escaflowne a second chance. |

While I'm not going to repeat my "Evangelion on CN" mistake , I find it highly improbable that CN would pick up Escaflowne this late in the game.
Mainly because it's Toonami material, and their plate's full to overflowing at the moment with newer, shinier, kid-attracting shows.
Of course, that doesn't explain S-cry-ed on [as]. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Plus, they'll need something for next fall. Remember, it's also that their waiting for Fox's airing rights to expire. And we don't know how long those will last.
And doesn't Disney have those rights currently? Didn't they buy Fox Kids? _________________ anime is teh s uck

I don't think so... I think they did get the Family Channel, _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." - Calvin

If they get the chance I hope Williams Street airs Escaflowne, all it would need is polished up look like Eva platinum edition. It isn't as confusing as Evangelion and it can also get alot of female viewers due to it's clever mix of both shounen and shoujuo. I've heard a girl say that Escaflowne was the only mecha series she ever liked. So AS could bag alot of Inuyasha fans with the emotional drama and also get S-cry-ed and Champloo crowd with the action scenes.
Family Guy was a show that was rescued from obscurity, there's no reason Escaflowne can't be a success with the proper treatment. |

You were correct previously. Disney bought Saban, who owns (owned?) Fox Kids and Fox Family. _________________ Toonami visual schedule - UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2015 |

i also agree that FOX screwed up with Escaflowne. they didn't even finish the series either. but since AS is premiering the movie, i'm sure that escaflowne fans are content! :wink
