I once kept a VHS tape filled with over an hour of just Toonami promos, bumpers, intros, TMIs, music videos, and everything else. Mostly from the original TOM. A few years ago I lost it in an unfortunate accident.
I'm thankful that TDA exists along with YouTube, but the quality of videos from that era are very poor. I'd have expected there to a be a restoration by now, but I see that even recent VHS rips (e.g. Intruder) are far below their original broadcast quality, borderline unwatchable.
Now I'm going to propose something and the one thing I don't want to hear is that it's impossible. I want Cartoon Network to release the original broadcast quality promos, bumpers, and everything related to Toonami. Everything. It would be enough for me to have everything from the original TOM, but why stop there? All of Toonami is extraordinary work start-to-finish.
CN has little motivation to do this. They axed Toonami and aren't interested in restoring the brand in any form. To do so would take attention away from their current offering. No company wants to spend time and money resurrecting the past. I don't care. The art is just too valuable to be stopped by the inconvenience of business.
If it takes money, then we'll find money. If it takes a thousand people saying they want it, we'll find a thousand people. If it takes one dedicated person at CN to go through the archives and dig up footage, we'll find that person. If it takes a small team of lawyers to renegotiate rights that may have expired, we'll find those lawyers.
The one thing I will not accept is that it's impossible.
Perhaps some of the art assets are lost and no doubt much of them are. These things happen to art when owned by large corporations. Because they are judged to have no use for future projects, they are lost, forgotten, and neglected. Given how much pride Toonami's caretakers appeared to take in their work, continuing to show old footage years later in retrospective promos, I hope this is not the case. However even artists sometimes abandon their own work in an effort to create something new.
So I expect to hear that a full restoration is impossible and perhaps it is, but I will not accept that all of it is lost. It's just too good. I refuse to believe that it is not still being enjoyed by someone, somewhere in its original high quality form. Things like that just don't die. They're put on a pedestal and praised. So I ask that someone, who somewhere has this material on a pedestal, to make that pedestal public.
Make the phone call to someone who says it's alright. Upload them to YouTube or give them straight to me. I don't care. I just want to enjoy them. Obviously I'm not the only one or low quality Toonami vids wouldn't still be uploaded to YouTube every day.
Everyone else, join with me and voice your support.

I've seen some Toonami promos on YouTube that have been remastered to HD from a VHS source.
If you can find any information on what software can do that it would be a start. _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."
