Carl Macek, Father of 'Robotech' (1951-2010)
Jerry Beck at Cartoon Brew broke the news that his former Streamline Pictures co-founder and "creator" of Toonami cornerstone Robotech, passed away of a heart attack Saturday, April 17th.
Among other animation projects throughout his career in addition to adapting Robotech for Harmony Gold in 1984, Mr. Macek helped Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi start his Spumco animation studio as well as co-founding anime film distributor Streamline Pictures.
Mr. Macek had also recently worked on English script adaptations for Naruto and Bleach.
Mr. Beck summed it up best- "Carl had his critics. But one thing is certain: the popularity of anime in the North America [sic] would not be where it is today without Macek's groundbreaking work on Robotech and his efforts on behalf of Streamline Pictures."
R.I.P. and thank you Mr. Macek.

Nicktoons picks up Toonami's pieces.
Dragonball Kai has been licensed for U.S. television broadcast...
ON NICKTOONS NETWORK?!?
Sure, why not?
Also, they've picked up Voltron: Panthera Force.

A nephew's farewell
jruff writes "Roy E. Disney, nephew of studio founder Walt Disney, and longtime executive of the Walt Disney Company (as well as Director Emeritus) has passed away today at the age of 79, after a year-long battle with stomach cancer.
I know this is a little off-topic, but I just wanted to remind you."

We stayed gold, and now we have our reward. (UPDATE #2)
I wish I could say Toonami is back, but it's not exactly the case. However, CN has heard our cries for an action block on Saturday nights and responded.
CN's Friday "You Are Here" block is now having a Saturday block, starting this week at 7PM. (UPDATE: It turns out not to be the case. It's just an unnamed block of action programming.) Here's the lineup for the block. (UPDATE: Last-minute schedule changes have been made. Thanks, Nobuyuki!)
7PM - Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Bakugan Battle Brawlers 7:30PM - Bakugan Battle Brawlers Super Hero Squad 8PM - Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 Teen Titans 8:30PM - Batman: The Brave and the Bold 9PM - The Secret Saturdays 9:30PM - Justice League Unlimited

Because YOU Demanded It! Naruto Shippuden on TV [Updated]
Just not on Cartoon Network.
Viz Media has announced that Naruto Shippuden has been acquired by Disney-ABC Cable Networks Group for debut on their Disney XD television channel beginning in October. The actual premiere date has not yet been announced. Daikun informs us that the premiere is set for October 28th at 8:30 PM.
Disney XD's stated target audience is boys ages 6-14, (what we always hoped a full-time Toonami channel could have been, minus the live-action content) and it is hoped that Shippuden will be successful for them.

And Now We're Done...
Elsewhere on the interwebz, "Gary Potter" noticed:
"Toonami Jetstream is now officially dead. toonamijetstream.com [fixed that for you ;)] takes you to a message saying that Naruto has been moved to CN Video and the other shows are all gone. Not only that, but every anime show besides Naruto, Pokémon, and Bakugan has been removed from the CN show pages.
Well, it was fun."
Yeah.. it was, wasn't it?

A final goodbye.
I've been away for so long that I missed the end. I feel the need to say a few things, no it's not news, it's thanks.
I realized tonight that I've been watching Toonami for nearly 10 years. 10 wonderful years. The block not only reintroduced me to shows I had long forgotten but also brought new ones to my eyes. It showed me that not all anime is garbage (though most still is :p). But most importantly it brought about TDA and it's forums and later, TDI. I remember religiously checking it wanting to keep abreast with all its denizens. From this simple block of cartoons we all were brought together and became friends.
It's these friends who've come and gone, brought drama and humor to the moments of our lives when we were all together, that I want to thank. I will not name any names, for I know I will leave somebody out who I should not but you all know who you are. I do and will treasure the time we've all invested here over the years.
Click read more for one final musing.
